Hi everyone! I am not a writer and definitely NOT a blogger, so not sure why I'm here. Maybe the reason is simply because I want you to have fun and get lots of flowers from your dahlias! I am going to do a series of blog posts this summer, all about growing dahlias. About one per month. They won't be fancy or longwinded so hopefully you enjoy them!
This post is about starting your dahlias indoors or in a greenhouse ( if your lucky) giving them a head start, and therefore getting them to bloom much sooner!
Make sure your tuber has an eye or eyes, like the picture below. If you can't find an eye, but spent a lot of money on it, plant it anyway.

Mix up potting soil with water so it's moist, but not soggy.

Fill pot about 2/3 full of soil. Place the tuber in at an angle or horizontally if it fits. Place the eye pointing up.

Fill pot with soil, making sure the eye is about two inches below the soil line. Be sure to label varieties, if that's important to you.

Place pot near a sunny window or in a greenhouse. DON'T douse with water until shoots appear. If soil is getting dry, do a light sprinkling of water, just be careful not to do too much. When planting time comes, presto! Your dahlia plants are already growing. And that means more flowers! Have fun!
